Helping students learn from their mistakes

Monday, February 5, 2024 - 3:30pm
Malott 532 (Lounge)

Over the course of a math class students will make many errors: on their homework, on exams, and in class. For many students in our introductory courses, these mistakes will confirm an already held belief that they aren't good at math or that the class they are taking is full of tricks and setting them up for failure. In this seminar, we will talk about how we can help students reframe and learn from their mistakes. In the first part of the seminar, we will focus on helping individual students learn from their mistakes during office hours, class, etc. In the second half, we will discuss activities we can add into our courses to encourage all of our students to view mistakes as opportunities for learning.

Refreshments will be served at 3:00 PM.
