The Challenges of Mathematical Language

Wednesday, October 5, 2022 - 4:35pm
Malott 406

In this seminar, I'd like to discuss the role of language in teaching concept-oriented mathematics like linear algebra. Specifically, how the norms/expectations of mathematical language differ from the norms/expectations of everyday language, and how we as TAs/instructors can be mindful of the challenges that these (sometimes unspoken) expectations pose to our students.

Pizza will be served after the seminar
